600 individuals arrested over church vandalism

Over 600 people have been charged with terrorism-related offenses for vandalizing churches and setting fire to homes owned by the Christian community in Jaranwala, as reported by ARY News on Thursday.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), a large group of about 500 – 600 individuals, led by a certain group, violently attacked the Christian community. They entered people’s homes, caused damage, and set fire to both homes and a church building.

The FIR registered against these individuals,has cited various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, along with multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015.

Furthermore, the Punjab government has initiated a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the incident, following the directives of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul- Haq.

In response to the situation, the police in Punjab stated that more than 100 arrests have been made, with assistance from the Rangers.

In light of these events, the district administration has imposed Section 144 for 1 week, prohibiting gatherings except for government-organized events.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaa-rul-Haq Kakar has taken note of the incidents in Jaranwala, expressing deep concern and promising strong action against those violating the law and targeting minority groups. He assured citizens that the government stands with them wholeheartedly and will ensure justice is served.
