Accountability court in Islamabad has taken action regarding the arrest warrant issued for former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case. According to reports from ARY News, the court, presided over by Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir, has temporarily suspended the arrest warrant, with the condition that it will be reinstated if Nawaz Sharif fails to appear in court on October 24.
During the court proceedings, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor did not object to the petition seeking the suspension of the arrest warrant. The prosecutor argued that the court had the authority to suspend the warrant, which was originally issued to ensure the accused’s appearance in court.
Nawaz Sharif’s legal counsel, Qazi Misbah, made a compelling case for the temporary suspension of the warrant. He pointed out that Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to return to Pakistan on October 21, just three days before the hearing on October 24, and emphasized his client’s intention to appear in court.
Notably, the court had previously declared Nawaz Sharif a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana case, leading to the issuance of the permanent warrant. However, the defense counsel highlighted that the case’s status was undecided at that time, and cited a medical report submitted to the court to explain Nawaz Sharif’s absence.
The court’s decision to suspend the warrant came after a series of arguments from both sides. This development underscores the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding this high-profile case.
