Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin, During his regular briefing,  expressed China’s support for holding an urgent debate and strongly condemned the burning of the Holy Quran in a specific country. He emphasized China’s advocacy for mutual respect, inclusiveness, and mutual learning between civilizations, firmly opposing all forms of Islamophobia.

Wang Wenbin highlighted that the concept of freedom of speech should not be used as a justification for fueling conflicts and antagonism between civilizations. He stressed the importance of respecting all religious beliefs and feelings.

China pledged to collaborate with the international community to implement the Global Civilization Initiative, which promotes equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness among civilizations. The aim is to safeguard the diverse nature of civilizations worldwide and work together to build a shared future for humanity.

The 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council conducted an urgent debate on the acts of burning the Holy Quran in the relevant countries. A draft resolution proposed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was passed with 28 votes in favor, 12 against, and 7 abstentions.

The resolution condemns recent public and premeditated acts of desecration of the Holy Quran. It also calls for a topic discussion and an interactive dialogue during the 54th and 55th sessions of the UN Human Rights Council, respectively. Furthermore, it requests the High Commissioner to provide an oral update on the root causes of religious hatred.

China expressed its condemnation of the burning of the Holy Quran and affirmed its commitment to promoting mutual respect and inclusiveness between civilizations. The UN Human Rights Council held an urgent debate and passed a resolution addressing these acts of desecration and seeking further discussions and updates on the root causes of religious hatred.
