Pakistan is bracing for a cold spell next week as fresh rain and snowfall are expected in various parts of the country, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD has issued a weather advisory, stating that a weather system from the west is likely to enter northern Pakistan on the evening of October 13 and spread to central parts on the night of October 14.
The forecast predicts intermittent rain and thunderstorms with moderate isolated falls in upper areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and other regions from the evening of October 13 to October 17.
Kashmir’s Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, and various areas in Gilgit Baltistan will also experience moderate to isolated heavy rainfall during the same period.
Areas like Islamabad, Potohar region, Murree, Galiyat, and several cities in Punjab, are expected to witness similar weather conditions from October 13 to 17.
Additionally, there is the possibility of snowfall in the high mountains of KP, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, as well as isolated hailstorms in the plains of KP during this forecasted period.
In Sindh and Balochistan, areas such as Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, and several others are expected to receive rain with wind and thunderstorms on October 17 and 18.
The impact of this weather pattern is expected to result in a significant drop in temperatures. There’s also a risk of increased water flows in local streams and the potential for landslides in vulnerable areas. Heavy rain may lead to urban flooding in Rawalpindi and Lahore on October 15 and 16.
The Met Office advises farmers to manage their crop activities accordingly and urges tourists and travelers to exercise caution during this forecasted period.
