Karachi Braces for Impact as Cyclone Biparjoy Approaches

The effects of Cyclone Biparjoy in the Arabian Sea are being felt in Karachi, as the city experienced drizzle and windstorms with gusty winds on Tuesday. Sohrab Goth and other areas of the city witnessed rainfall following a dust storm accompanied by strong winds. The initial impact of the cyclone has begun inching towards the Sindh coastal belt, resulting in sporadic rainfall and gusty winds in various localities, including Ibrahim Hyderi, Shara-e-Faisal, North Karachi, Ayisha Manzil, Liaquatabad, and Gulshan Iqbal.

The Meteorological Department had earlier forecasted that the coastal belt would experience the impact of the cyclone in certain areas. As a result, the temperature is expected to drop slightly, and the city may witness intermittent rainfall with thunderstorms on Wednesday. In light of the impending weather conditions, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the coastal settlement of Rerhi Goth to ensure the safety of its residents.

Keti Bandar and the surrounding areas of the Thatta coastal belt are also experiencing rain and strong winds as Cyclone Biparjoy approaches. In anticipation of the rough sea conditions caused by the cyclone, several villages have been evacuated to ensure the safety of the local population.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s prediction, widespread wind-dust/thunderstorm rain with heavy to extremely heavy falls, accompanied by squally winds ranging from 80-100 km/hour, gusting up to 120 km/hour, is expected in districts including Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot from today until 17 June.

As the cyclone continues its path toward the coastal areas of Sindh, residents must stay updated with the latest weather advisories and follow any instructions or evacuation orders issued by the authorities. The government and concerned agencies are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the population in the face of this natural disaster.
