In a recent noteworthy development, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Pakistan has made a significant decision regarding the Paragon City case involving Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother, Khawaja Salman Rafique. The NAB has officially declared both individuals innocent and has returned the case to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). The key reason for this decision is the apparent absence of concrete evidence related to corruption.
The NAB’s stance is that the approval for the Paragon Housing Society came from Aziz Bhatti Town, rather than the LDA. As a result, the NAB has decided that the case should be overseen by the LDA as the regulating authority.
Accountability Judge Qamar uz Zaman has further directed the LDA to take responsibility for addressing any complaints or concerns pertaining to the Paragon Housing Society project. It’s worth noting that this development follows allegations of the Khawaja brothers receiving substantial financial benefits from society, with Saad Rafique allegedly receiving Rs58 million and his brother Salman Rafique Rs39 million.
This decision marks a significant turning point in the case, with legal authorities shifting the responsibility for further investigation and action to the appropriate regulatory body.
