National Assembly to be dissolved on August 08

According to sources, it has been reported that the President will receive a summary regarding the dissolution of the lower house of Parliament. If the President decides to keep the summary pending, the assembly will automatically dissolve within 48 hours, as per the law.

The ruling party in the Sindh province, the People’s Party, has also agreed with the federal government to dissolve the provincial legislature along with the National Assembly.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, has called for a session of the Constitutional Committee on July 20. This session will discuss matters related to the approval of the election reforms law. Leaders of all parliamentary parties have been invited to attend this session.

It is important to note that the lower house of Parliament will complete its five-year tenure on August 13. The last session of the current National Assembly is expected to be called soon.

The Federal Information Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, has clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 8. She stated that reports about the dissolution on August 8 are incorrect.

Sources have mentioned that a significant piece of legislation concerning amendments in the Election Act 2017 and electoral reforms is likely to be the final law passed by the current lower house. A parliamentary committee on electoral reforms, chaired by Ayaz Sadiq, is considering comprehensive changes to the election law with key amendments.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other government ministers have stated that the government’s tenure will end by August 14, dispelling speculations that the ruling coalition was attempting to extend its time in power.
