The 4th D-8 Senior Officials Meeting and 3rd D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Tourism Cooperation are scheduled to take place in Bhurban, Murree, Pakistan on August 4-5, 2023. This marks the first time such an event is being held in Pakistan. The decision to host the meetings in Pakistan was made during the 2nd D-8 Ministerial Meeting in Malaysia back in 2019, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event had to be postponed until this year.
Awn Chaudhry, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Tourism & Sports and Chairman of PTDC, had discussions with the Secretary General of the D-8 secretariat in March 2023, leading to the decision to proceed with organizing the meeting later in the year.
The primary objective of this gathering is to promote Pakistan’s Tourism Potential and explore tourism trade opportunities among the member states, which include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Additionally, the meeting aims to foster socio-economic development and identify ways to enhance intra-D-8 tourism while considering the challenges posed by the post-COVID-19 tourism era. It will serve as a platform for member states to share knowledge, best practices, and cooperation opportunities, and also to explore ways to promote bilateral tourism among the D-8 countries.
