Pakistan’s IT Exports Hit $305 Million in February

Pakistan’s technology exports soared to $305 million in February 2025, registering a 19% year-over-year increase from $257 million in February 2024, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Pakistan IT exports Strengthen Economy

The IT sector contributed 43% of Pakistan’s total services exports for the month, reinforcing its role as a key driver of economic growth. This growth highlights the increasing global demand for Pakistani tech services, positioning the country as a competitive player in the international digital economy. Meanwhile, with continued policy support and investment in innovation, the IT sector is expected to drive even higher export revenues in the coming months.

Key Drivers Behind the IT Export Growth

Experts attribute this surge to multiple factors:

  • Expansion in MENAP Markets: Pakistani tech companies strengthened their footprint in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAP) region and actively engaged in LEAP technology events in Saudi Arabia.
  • SBP’s Policy Changes: The State Bank of Pakistan increased the foreign currency retention limit for IT exporters from 35% to 50%, allowing firms to reinvest more in their operations.
  • Stable Exchange Rate: A relatively stable Pakistani rupee encouraged exporters to repatriate a higher share of earnings, boosting foreign exchange reserves.

Pakistan’s Overall Services Export Performance

Pakistan’s total services exports stood at $709 million in February 2025, reflecting a 5% year-over-year increase and a 2% rise compared to January 2025.

  • Travel services: $69 million (3% increase)
  • Transport services: $91 million (20% decline)
