GTA 6 Won’t Run on Jailbroken PS5s
Grand Theft Auto VI will reportedly require PS5 system software version 14.10 to run at launch, which could prevent users on currently supported jailbroken firmware from playing the game without updating.
The requirement has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Sony. It comes from PlayStation Game Size, an account that tracks and datamines information from PlayStation Store databases.
Current Jailbreak Support Stops at 13.60
The issue mainly affects users who keep their PS5 consoles on older system software for jailbreak compatibility.
Current jailbreak support reportedly goes up to firmware version 13.60. Newer versions fall outside the supported range.
Sony has since released firmware 14.10, which is newer than the versions currently supported by available jailbreak methods.
Users May Have to Choose Between GTA 6 and Jailbreak Support
If the reported requirement remains unchanged, PS5 owners staying on firmware 13.60 for jailbreak support would need to update their consoles before running GTA 6.
Doing so would currently move the console beyond the firmware versions supported by the existing jailbreak.
That situation could change if developers later expand jailbreak support to firmware 14.10 or newer.
There is also no confirmation that Rockstar or Sony specifically chose firmware 14.10 to block jailbroken consoles. Games still in development can require newer firmware because of updated SDKs, APIs, or PlayStation system features.
Still Not Officially Confirmed
For now, the 14.10 firmware requirement should be treated as a reported datamine rather than an officially confirmed specification.
If the information is accurate and current jailbreak support does not expand before launch, users on jailbroken PS5 systems may need to update their consoles to play GTA 6 at launch.
