Ex-Information Minister Declares Women as Horrible Drivers

Former federal information minister Fawad Chaudhry has drawn criticism after declaring that “most” women are “horrible drivers” while opposing campaigns encouraging women to ride scooters.

Chaudhry made the remarks while responding to a BBC News Punjabi report highlighting the growing use of scooters by women in Punjab and how two-wheelers are helping women gain greater independence in their daily travel.

“Most of the girls are horrible drivers and must not be encouraged to use bikes!! This campaign is akin putting their and others lives in danger,” Chaudhry wrote in a social media post.

The BBC report featured women using scooters as a means of improving mobility and reducing their reliance on others for transportation.

Chaudhry’s comments quickly drew reactions online, with users criticizing his characterization of women drivers. Some questioned the basis for his claim and contrasted his remarks with their views on driving standards among male motorists.

Others argued that campaigns encouraging women to ride scooters provide greater mobility and independence rather than creating a safety risk.
