Rawalpindi Ring Road Opening Date Confirmed
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project, connecting GT Road with the M-2 Motorway, is expected to open to traffic in the coming weeks as authorities have been directed to complete all remaining work by October 25.
Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Suleman Ghani confirmed that the government plans to open the road to the public soon. He said the relevant departments have been instructed to complete the finishing work within the given deadline.
Meanwhile, Gujar Khan Assistant Commissioner Syeda Zeneb Hussain visited the Ring Road’s starting point at Banth Mor to inspect tree planting and other remaining work. She directed officials to ensure the project is ready for inauguration and public use by October 25.
Former Rawalpindi district nazim and PML-N MNA Raja Jawaid Ikhlas said the project was originally planned in 2015 during the PML-N government. He credited the Punjab government and the chief minister for providing funds and bringing the project close to completion.
Ikhlas said the Ring Road would provide easier access to Islamabad International Airport for overseas Pakistanis traveling from Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Jhelum, Mirpur, and Dadyal.
He added that the road would help reduce heavy traffic in Rawalpindi and improve connectivity across the region.
The project, which passes through Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi, and Taxila tehsils, is also expected to boost commercial activity, support the local economy, and improve livelihoods in surrounding areas.
