Sindh Govt Approves Four-Year Extension for University Vice Chancellors

The tenure of several vice chancellors at public universities in Sindh has been extended, following the extension granted earlier to Dr Nusrat Shah, daughter of former chief minister Qaim Ali Shah.

The extensions were approved for Liaquat Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr Ikramuddin, Aror University Vice Chancellor Dr Zahid Hussain Khand, and Shaheed Allah Bakhsh University Vice Chancellor Dr Arbela Bhutto for another four years.

Earlier, the tenure of Dr Nusrat Shah, vice chancellor of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana, was also extended in August.

According to reports, the extension granted to Dr Zahid Khand was made on political and recommendation-based grounds.

The extension for the vice chancellors of Aror University of Art, Architecture and Design and Heritage Sukkur and Shaheed Allah Bakhsh University was reportedly approved on the recommendation of Sindh Assembly Speaker Owais Qadir Shah.

It has also been reported that the chief minister had to approve a rejected summary again after the speaker’s recommendation.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah had opposed the extension for Professor Zahid Khand and had suggested appointing a new vice chancellor through an advertisement and selection board.

He had also recommended that if no suitable candidate was found, Zahid Hussain Khand could be reappointed as vice chancellor.
