NADRA Explains How to Change Name on CNIC

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has outlined the procedure for changing a name on a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), explaining the documents and information applicants must provide.

Applicants must submit an application along with the updated name and the CRMS number of a verified computerized birth certificate issued by a union council, municipal committee, or cantonment board.

NADRA said applicants seeking to change their names due to a change of religion must also provide a certificate from a Dar-ul-Ifta. The authority clarified that citizens can change the name on their CNIC only once in their lifetime, except for women who wish to change their names after marriage.

NADRA also stated that applicants do not need to bring photocopies of supporting documents. Instead, they should provide the relevant document numbers issued by NADRA or the concerned union council.

The authority shared the guidance to help citizens understand the requirements and make the CNIC name-change process more convenient.
