PCB Announces $200,000 Cricket Development Award for PSL Franchises

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new $200,000 Pakistan Super League (PSL) Cricket Development Excellence Award to recognize the franchise that has made the strongest contribution to cricket development in Pakistan.

For the inaugural edition, the award will assess development work carried out by PSL franchises from the third edition of the league through PSL 11.

According to the PCB, the award is intended to recognize long-term investment in Pakistan cricket, structured player development pathways, and measurable efforts toward the professional development of cricketers.

Franchises will first assess their own performance using a scoring model developed by the PSL and submit their scores along with supporting evidence. A five-member assessment committee comprising independent experts and PCB stakeholders will then verify the submissions against evidence and verifiable data points.

The committee’s assessment will make up 80 percent of the final score, while the remaining 20 percent will come from a fan vote.

Before voting begins, franchises will publish presentations highlighting their cricket development work on the PSL’s official social media platforms, allowing fans to review and rank their efforts.

Player pathways and development will carry the highest weight in the assessment at 25 percent, followed by grassroots and domestic engagement at 20 percent. High-performance infrastructure and innovation will account for 15 percent, while player impact and match contribution and player welfare and education will each carry 10 percent.

Under the player pathways category, franchises will be assessed on the new and uncapped players they identify, their development and progression, and the opportunities provided to them outside the PSL.

The player impact category will evaluate the progress of players scouted or discovered by franchises, including their match-winning contributions and the expansion of their roles within their respective teams.

High-performance infrastructure and innovation will cover facilities, staffing, systems, and the use of technology. The player welfare and education category will include financial literacy, educational support, mental health systems, media training, anti-doping and anti-corruption education, and career-transition planning.

Grassroots and domestic engagement will cover both men’s and women’s cricket, along with coaching clinics for children, school and club initiatives, and participation in PCB-organized cricket.

The PCB said the assessment process will change after PSL 11. From next year onward, only development work carried out between the two most recent editions of the league will be considered for the award.
