Punjab Sets Deadline for Completion of Local Roads Program

Punjab Communications and Works (C&W) Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth has set October 15 as the deadline to complete the Chief Minister Punjab’s Local Roads Program and directed field teams to finish all remaining road projects within the set timelines.

Bharth issued the directions while chairing a meeting on Tuesday to review progress on the program. C&W Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries and Chief Engineers attended the meeting, while Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers joined through video link.

Officials briefed the minister on progress and said the Highways Department remains on track to complete the Sohne Pind Sohniyan Rahwan Program in October. Bharth set September 30 and October 5 as targets for field teams to complete additional road projects and reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Local Roads Program by October 15.

He directed officials to complete lane markings and finishing work alongside road construction. He also instructed Chief Engineers to visit project sites and inspect completed and ongoing roads.

Bharth directed the Road Asset Management team to start checking road quality and ordered a comprehensive assessment of 1,000 kilometers of roads under the program.

He also announced Phase II of the Local Roads Program in Punjab. Bharth said the Punjab government was establishing a road network across the province under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and added that people remained satisfied with the quality of the improved roads.
