Sindh Launches New Digital System for Environmental Monitoring
The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has launched a digitalization initiative along with the Sindh Integrated Environmental Monitoring and Management Information System (SIEMMIS) to modernize environmental governance, monitoring, and public services across the province.
The initiative was introduced during a three-day technology exhibition at the Expo Center Karachi and is aimed at bringing key environmental services onto a centralized digital platform.
Under the new system, users will be able to submit and renew applications for environmental licenses, process NOCs, register industrial establishments, monitor compliance, file and track environmental complaints, and manage inspections online.
Sindh Secretary Environment Faisal Ahmed Uqaili said the move is part of SEPA’s transition toward digital environmental governance, with the objective of making environmental approvals, industrial registration, inspections, complaints, and record management faster, more transparent, and more effective.
SIEMMIS will also support GIS-based mapping of industrial establishments, real-time monitoring of environmental data, and instant access to digital documents and historical records. The system is expected to support data-based decision-making in environmental matters.
SEPA is also introducing an artificial intelligence-based multilingual chatbot to assist citizens. The chatbot will provide guidance in both English and Urdu.
Applicants will be able to track the status of their applications and complaints online and receive timely updates. The system will also allow the entire complaint process, from registration to redressal, to be tracked transparently.
Uqaili said the government aims to use technology to establish a more effective environmental management system that contributes to a clean, green, and healthy Sindh.
He added that SEPA’s digitalization will help government institutions improve monitoring through automated workflows, a centralized environmental information database, and more transparent decision-making.
