Nine Major Roads to Be Rehabilitated in Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has assigned nine road projects worth Rs. 1.6 billion to the Communication and Works Department because of its limited capacity to carry out the work.

The RMC will provide the funds, while the Communication and Works Department will execute the projects within the civic body’s jurisdiction. The Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) has directed the department to begin work as soon as possible and complete all nine projects by December 31.

The projects include the rehabilitation of Khyaban-I-Sir Syed Road, Bokra Road, 5th Road, Rawal Road from Ali Nawaz Chowk to Murree Road, Chandani Chowk Commercial Market Road, Railway Workshop Road, China Market-Gordon College Road, Satellite Town 4th B Road and Band Khana Road.

The nine projects range from 0.8 to 2.4 kilometers in length, with individual costs ranging from around Rs. 115 million to Rs. 248 million. A senior district administration official said the divisional administration assigned the projects to the Communication and Works Department to rehabilitate major roads in the garrison city.

The official said three additional road projects of the Rawalpindi Development Authority and District Council had also been assigned to the department. These include the reconstruction of Ch. Bostan Khan Road from Chaklala Scheme-III to the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench, Chakri Road and the road leading toward Falcon Chowk along Islamabad Expressway.

The official said these three projects had been submitted to the Provincial Development Working Party for approval. Once approved, the Communication and Works Department would begin work, with the respective civic bodies providing the funds.

The divisional administration has directed the department to ensure the quality of construction materials and complete the projects within the December 31 deadline.
